After running in six straight two-turn races, Domestic Product returned to a one-turn distance and responded with a dominant performance as he motored to a 7 1/2-length victory in the one-mile $200,000 Grade 3 Dwyer Stakes for 3-year-olds July 6 at Belmont at the Big A.

Following Domestic Product's 13th-place finish in the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve, Domestic Product ran second by nearly seven lengths in Monmouth Park's 1 1/16-mile Pegasus Stakes June 15. Trainer Chad Brown then decided that shifting to one-turn races would be in the colt's best interests.

Brown targeted the seven-furlong Grade 1 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes as Domestic Product's main summer objective. The tricky part then became how to best prep Domestic Product for that Aug. 24 stakes at Saratoga Race Course?

Then Brown saw the Dwyer Stakes. Problem solved.

"We'll shoot for the Jerkens after this," Brown said. "I was thinking after the last race at Monmouth it was a far cutback and a long layoff from the Pegasus to the Jerkens. That's why I decided to enter him at the last minute in the Dwyer. Now the spacing makes more sense to me and the cutback is not as drastic with this race under his belt. The Jerkens will be a different field in a seven-furlong race, and this will help him in that race."

The victory was the third in eight career starts for Domestic Product and his first win since a neck victory in the March Grade 3 Tampa Bay Derby victory that punched his ticket to the run for the roses.

Though he ran in six straight two-turn races before Saturday, Domestic Product certainly looked the part of a stellar mile or seven-furlong type of runner in the Dwyer. Ridden by Flavien Prat, he was third after an opening quarter mile in :23.51, about a length behind the pacesetting Billal in the cozy field of four. Prat put Domestic Product ($3.40) on even terms with the leader approaching the quarter pole, and then the 3-5 favorite pulled away with ease in the stretch, covering the distance in a quick 1:33.54.

"I was very proud of this horse. He's a hardy, durable type of horse," Brown said.

Hades finished a clear second, five lengths ahead of Billal in third. Save the Trees trailed throughout.

Trikari Wins Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational

Trikari added a top-level win to his growing résumé in the $750,000 Grade 1 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes July 6 at the Belmont at the Big A meeting.

Stalking the pacesetting White Palomino behind dawdling early fractions, Trikari pounced on the leader with a quarter mile to run and battled that rival to the wire. Ridden by John Velazquez, the 3-year-old son of Oscar Performance narrowly won the photo over a game White Palomino.

Trained by Graham Motion, Trikari ($12.40) stopped the timer in a final time of 1:54.71. Favored Legend of Time, hampered by traffic late, completed the trifecta. Endlessly, the second choice on the tote board, finished last in the five-horse field.

Cinderella's Dream Rallies to Win Belmont Oaks

Cinderella's Dream travelled to the United States for the first time and did not disappoint in her U.S. debut, rallying from the back of the pack to catch front-runners Segesta and She Feels Pretty to win the $500,000 Grade 1 Fasig-Tipton Belmont Oaks Invitational July 6 at Belmont at the Big A. She raced 1 3/16 miles on firm turf in 1:53.42, establishing a course record over the infrequently run distance on the Aqueduct turf course.

The winner, a Godolphin homebred 3-year-old trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by Godolphin's primary overseas rider, William Buick, scored her fifth victory in six starts and her first at the graded stakes level. All of her other races had come in either Britain or Dubai, with her only loss being a seventh-place finish in the Group 1 One Thousand Guineas at Newmarket in her most recent start on May 5.

Cinderella's Dream paid $9.30 for a $2 win wager as the second choice in the field of nine.

Mullikin Blazes to John A. Nerud Stakes Victory

Mullikin earned his first graded stakes win when victorious by 1 1/2 lengths atop a five-horse field in the $200,000 Grade 2 John A. Nerud Stakes going seven furlongs at Belmont at the Big A on July 6.

Trained by Rodolphe Brisset and ridden by Flavien Prat, Mullikin pressed a fast pace throughout and finished fastest to secure the win in a time of 1:20.54 as the 6-5 favorite in a five-horse field. Coastal Mission finished second and Ninetyprcentmaddie finished third. The final time was only two ticks off Artax's 1:20.04 track record set in 1999.

"He just has a very high cruising speed, and he was game down the lane," Prat said.  "I think Rodolphe did a great job. The horse has improved race after race."

Saturday's score has put the Aug. 24 Grade 1 Forego Stakes at Saratoga Race Course on the radar for Mullikin next.
