There’s no doubt Thorpedo Anna is the America’s best 3-year-old filly. She might also be the best 3-year-old regardless of sex. That question could be answered later in the year.

For now, the Longines Kentucky Oaks winner will flaunt her speed against Distaff rivals Saturday as she headlines a field of five in the Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga Race Course while searching for her fourth straight win.

1. Candied (5-2, morning-line odds): She ran to her potential in winning the Lady’s Secret Stakes at Monmouth Park by 4 ½ lengths. It was an ungraded stakes, but the time was fast and reflects where she should be at 3 after a stellar 2-year-old campaign. Looks like the main danger.

JOCKEY: Manny Franco; TRAINER: Todd Pletcher

2. Barbratina (20-1): Comes off a narrow allowance win at Churchill Downs, but lost by 11 ¾ lengths in her lone graded stakes start. Faces a very difficult task in trying to beat Thorpedo Anna.

JOCKEY: Junior Alvarado; TRAINER: George Weaver

3. Thorpedo Anna (1-2): Aside from a big class edge, the multiple Grade 1 winner faces just four opponents, none of whom have the kind of speed to challenge her on the front end in the early going. A performance along the lines of her romp in the DK Horse Acorn Stakes at the Spa last month will make her very difficult to beat.

JOCKEY: Brian J. Hernandez Jr.; TRAINER: Ken McPeek

4. Leslie’s Rose (5-1): Bounced back quite nicely after a 44 ½-length loss to Thorpedo Anna in the Kentucky Oaks, finishing second by 5 ½ lengths to her in the Acorn. Nevertheless, making up those 5 ½ lengths in this field will be prodigious challenge.

JOCKEY: John Velazquez; TRAINER: Todd Pletcher

5. Intricate (8-1): Was a good second in the Monomoy Girl Stakes at Churchill Downs, but it was an ungraded stakes. She owns a win and a second in Grade 2 company but will be hurt by the lack of early pace.

JOCKEY: Tyler Gaffalione; TRAINER: Brendan Walsh

THE PICK: Thorpedo Anna

Predicted order of finish: 3-1-5
