Power Rankings: Owen Almighty Enters Derby Top 10 after Tampa Tour de Force
What had previously been a rare “off” weekend on the Road to the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve calendar in past March months is now populated by a new qualifying points prep for 2025. The Virginia Derby, previously a turf race for 3-year-olds held during the summer at Colonial Downs, has been switched to dirt, added to the Derby points series, and moved to Saturday, March 15, as the marquee race of a three-day boutique race meet at the New Kent Co., Va., track.
The Virginia Derby and other races from Colonial Downs (including the Virginia Oaks, a points prep for the Longines Kentucky Oaks) will be shown live on FanDuel TV as part of that network’s comprehensive daily coverage of North American and international racing. FanDuel TV will also show races from tracks including Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park, Turfway Park, Laurel Park, and Fair Grounds.
Live racing from Aqueduct, Oaklawn Park, and Tampa Bay Downs is showcased on “America’s Day at the Races,” which will have three shows this week starting on Friday, March 14, and ending Sunday, March 16. The NYRA-produced show will air on FOX Sports – check the below guide for specific channels and times.
Horse racing from tracks around the world is available to subscribers on Racetrack Television Network (RTN), which can be livestreamed on all devices (computer, tablet and smartphone) and on TV via DISH Network, Amazon Fire and Roku.
The other big event in the horse racing world this week is the National Horseplayers Championship (NHC) running from March 14-16 and held at Horseshoe Las Vegas. America’s Best Racing will provide on-site daily coverage of the event in a must-watch livestream “National Horseplayers Championship LIVE!” The show, broadcast live from the NHC contest floor, will be hosted by ABR’s Dan Tordjman and Rachel Miller along with Daily Racing Form’s Alexa Zepp, with regular guest appearances all three days including NHC veteran and ABR correspondent Noel Michaels.
Start times each day are tentatively set for noon ET on Friday, March 14, 5:30 p.m. ET Saturday, March 15, and 3 p.m. ET Sunday, March 16. “National Horseplayers Championship LIVE!” will air on ABR’s Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube channels – click here to set a watch reminder.
