Where to Watch/Listen: Horse Racing Coverage April 24-28
Events / Travel
Excitement is ramping up in the horse racing universe in anticipation of the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve on May 4. Derby contenders are shipping to Churchill Downs to get acclimated to the backstretch and train on the main track, and media coverage of the sport will reach a pinnacle over the next 12 days on all outlets – television, radio, and online streaming.
The Kentucky Derby Morning Works Show presented by Churchill Downs is underway and will continue through Thursday, May 2 – or “Thurby,” as it’s called in Louisville. The 20-minute show, which features analysts/handicappers Joe Kristufek, Kaitlin Free, Kevin Kilroy, and Tony Calo plus many guests throughout its run, airs at 7:25 a.m. ET on the Kentucky Derby’s Facebook, X/Twitter, and YouTube channels.
FanDuel TV has also set up shop in Louisville and will televise the opening-night card at Churchill Downs Saturday, April 27. The evening proceedings will also include the post-position draws for both the Kentucky Derby and Longines Kentucky Oaks. First post for the Downs After Dark card is at 6 p.m. ET and the draws for Derby and Oaks 150 will occur between races 3 and 4 on the card, from approximately 7:15 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. ET. The draw will also be streamed live on www.kentuckyderby.com.
FanDuel TV will also wind down the Keeneland spring meet with three more days of comprehensive coverage, ending Friday, April 26. The network continues its daily schedule with action from tracks including Santa Anita Park, Gulfstream Park, Laurel Park, and Golden Gate Fields.
Live racing from Aqueduct and Oaklawn Park is showcased on “America’s Day at the Races” from Thursday, April 25 through Sunday, April 28. The NYRA-produced show airs on FS2 this week – check the below schedule for times.
Horse racing from tracks around the world is available to subscribers on Racetrack Television Network (RTN), which can be livestreamed on all devices (computer, tablet and smartphone) and on TV via DISH Network, Amazon Fire and Roku.
America’s Best Racing’s livestream “Keeneland Weekend Kickoff LIVE!” wraps up with a final show this Friday, April 26, on-site from Keeneland’s The Hill, the popular tailgating area just east of the racetrack. Hosted by ABR’s Rachel Miller, analyst Ren Carothers, and handicapper Alexa Zepp, “Keeneland Weekend Kickoff LIVE!” starts at 4 p.m. ET and features analysis of and picks for the day’s races as well as guests from Keeneland, area horse farms, and the Ed Brown Society celebrating African Americans in the horse industry. It airs on ABR’s Facebook, X/Twitter, and YouTube channels and on its Instagram account.
