#2 Speaktomeofsummer: This is a really competitive field and I’m projecting that we’ll get fair value on this filly who won the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes two races ago. I do like the fact that she can sit just off the pace and make a late move – especially with the strong-finishing Joel Rosario aboard – in a race where there might just be a decent amount of early speed. Miss J McKay, a sentimental favorite of mine, looks tough on the stretch out to a mile here, which should also place her closer to the pace than usual. To her outside, Pure Wow has consistently shown early speed, as has Drop a Hint in her recent starts. Speaktomeofsummer has won two of her three races at this distance, her trainer, Christophe Clement, has been just about the hottest turf trainer in New York dating back to late spring, and this filly could get a dream setup.

#6 The Promised Road: The finale on the card features a full field of 2-year-old fillies, most of whom will be making their first start. This one, in particular, is a daughter of Quality Road and was a $220,000 auction purchase. In turf sprint races, 2-year-old starters by Quality Road win at a spectacular 21% clip – that’s easily best of any sire of the runners in this field. On the dam (mother) side, The Promised Road is a half-sister to No Mo Promises, who won in her first career start going this same six furlongs on the turf at Belmont. Lastly, The Promised Road is trained by George Weaver. He wins at a very high clip with his first-time starters and has a 20% strike rate with all 2-year-old starters in turf sprints. I couldn’t see being much more confident in a first-time starter than this one.
