Preakness Quick Sheet: Get to Know the 2021 Preakness Horses
Where to Watch/Listen: Horse Racing Coverage Aug. 2-6
Events / TravelThe upcoming week in horse racing is highlighted by three “Win and You’re In” qualifiers for the 40th annual Breeders’ Cup World Championships. The historic Whitney Stakes at Saratoga and the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar are both set to run Saturday, Aug. 5, and offer the race winners fees-paid entry to the Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic and Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff, respectively.
The other “Win and You’re In” race will be held Wednesday, Aug. 2 at Goodwood Racecourse in England. The Sussex Stakes is a Challenge Series qualifier for the FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile Presented by PDJF.
The Whitney Stakes will be televised live on FOX during a three-hour “FOX Saratoga Saturday” program. That NYRA-produced show will be bookended by the popular “Saratoga Live,” which will also air from Wednesday to Sunday, Aug. 6 on either FS2 or FS1. Check the below schedule for channels and times.
The Clement L. Hirsch Stakes will be shown on FanDuel TV along with all other races from Del Mar’s summer meet. FanDuel TV will also show racing from tracks including Gulfstream Park, Woodbine, Monmouth Park, and others as part of its daily package.
The Sussex Stakes will be shown on a special broadcast Wednesday morning on FS2, with a scheduled post time of 10:35 a.m. ET.
Horse racing from tracks around the world is available to subscribers on Racetrack Television Network (RTN), which can be livestreamed on all devices (computer, tablet and smartphone) and on TV via DISH Network, Amazon Fire and Roku.
Premier livestreaming content returns this week as ABR hosts a “Whitney Stakes Pre-Game LIVE” show on-site from Saratoga Saturday, Aug. 5. Hosts Dan Tordjman and Ren Carothers will be joined by Troy Levy and Gavin Levy from Game of Silks, an online blockchain game that is a partner with NYRA and attracts fans by offering NFTs representing real-life Thoroughbreds to players who can then accumulate rewards through racing and breeding. Starting at 1 p.m. ET, “Whitney Stakes Pre-Game LIVE” will preview Saturday’s card at the Spa and also feature surprise guests. It airs on ABR’s Facebook, Twitter (or X, if you prefer), and YouTube channels.
