America’s Best Racing and handicapper (and avid gambler) Monique Vág team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend.

Vág will identify her top picks as well as at least one longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet. She also will occasionally look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.

Saturday, April 3

Longshot Play

Keeneland, Race 3, 2:12 p.m. ET

#6 Gun Lap: He ran well in his racing debut on Nov. 13 in his only try at the sprinting distance. He was no match for the eventual winner, but was best of the rest in finishing a very game second. Saturday, he gets to try his luck cutting back to the sprinting distance and draws a great post to work out a stalking trip which could land this gelding in the winner's circle.

Blinkers will be added for the first time, and he goes out as a first time gelding – all angles worthy of a much closer look.

Best Bet

Keeneland, Race 5, 3:18 p.m. ET

#2 One Fast Cat: Trainer Wesley Ward has been on a roll recently sending out winners, and this colt looks like another one in with a great shot. He was heavily bet in his debut over the all-weather surface and this time around he tries his luck on the dirt.

His recent works have been quick, and drawing inside of his main rivals today could help him get the jump early. Look for this colt to utilize that early speed and control the pace scenario early on.

Best Bet

Keeneland, Race 10, $300,000 Madison Stakes, 6:02 p.m. ET

#5 Kimari: This filly has looked great racing on both the turf and dirt and put forth some really impressive efforts versus some tough graded stakes foes.

On Saturday, she enters off a career best speed figure where earned in a race where she was able to capitalize off a perfect stalking trip and win comfortably. She’s never raced seven furlongs before, but looks to be beaming with confidence and should be even sharper today making her second start off over nearly five months away.

 

Longshot Play

Sam Houston, Race 6, $75,000 Miss Houston Turf Stakes, 10 p.m. ET

#10 Quick Quick Quick: This mare was able to find racing room late in her most recent and got up in time to win by a head. Tonight she stretches out in distance back to racing at a mile and it looks like she will be attempting to work out a stalking trip.

Timing-wise, she fits in with this group and although most of her wins have come versus tougher, she does enter this race with some confidence and should be positioned in a prime striking spot to track down the speed late.
