Tacos and Trifectas: Searching for a Fountain of Youth Longshot
Events / TravelWelcome to Tacos and Trifectas! Each week, America’s Best Racing’s Southern California correspondent Jose Contreras - @LosPonies to those who follow him on Twitter - will provide a taco review along with a selection that he will key in trifecta bets in hopes of winning some cash to buy more tacos! Contreras will map out a trifecta betting strategy for how to key his main pick and keep track of his return on investment (ROI), which was positive in 2017.
Stop back each week if you love tacos and want a trifecta play!

#8 Marconi (8-1 odds): Broke slow and had to steady sharply in his last race when a rival took over his path at the start. It was rough start and he soon found himself last by a wide margin against quality group of horses. It’s tough to expect a win after you give that much of a head start in a stakes event. That was his first start of the year, he’s now reuniting with the rider of his big win two starts ago and I think we’re going to see a much improved effort today. He’s had trouble at the start in all three outings but I do think he will be a big player today.
Strategy on $80 Budget:
$1 Trifecta: 8 with 2,4,6,9,10 with 2,4,6,9,10 ($20)
$1 Trifecta: 2,4,6,9,10 with 8 with 2,4,6,9,10 ($20)
$1 Trifecta: 2,4,6,9,10 with 2,4,6,9,10 with 8 ($20)
$20 Win on #8 Marconi ($20)
