Preakness Quick Sheet: Get to Know the 2021 Preakness Horses
Where to Watch/Listen: Horse Racing Coverage for Dec. 17-20
Events / TravelAs an unprecedented year winds down and cases of COVID-19 rise once again across North America, the horse racing community like all other areas of society continues to make changes in response to the pandemic. Many racetracks currently operating are doing so without spectators or with limits to attendance, and have instituted strict safety screening protocols for essential employees who are already on the grounds to provide daily care for horses.
Charities are ramping up services to help track workers, while many other organizations including the Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation are redirecting resources to support medical efforts to combat the spread of the virus and support backstretch workers. (All proceeds from the Old Smoke T-shirt on sale on the left will go to the TJC Safety Net Foundation.)
Two prep races for the 2021 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve are on tap for the weekend: the Remington Springboard Mile Stakes at Remington Park on Friday and the Los Alamitos Futurity at Los Alamitos Race Course on Saturday. Both races offer qualifying points for Kentucky Derby 147 on a 10-4-2-1 distribution to the top four finishers.
The Remington Springboard Mile has a scheduled post time of 11:28 p.m. ET on Friday, and the Los Alamitos Futurity has a scheduled post of 4:28 p.m. ET on Saturday. Both races will be televised live on TVG as part of its coast-to-coast coverage.
Also this weekend, America’s Best Racing will host two live streaming shows focused on the prestigious Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini in Argentina, a "Win and You're In" qualifier for the 2021 Longines Breeders' Cup Turf. The shows are en Espanol and will air on Friday at 6 p.m. ET (a preview of the race) and Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET (a #BCLive show televising the race). The shows will stream on social media channels for both ABR (Facebook and YouTube) and the Breeders’ Cup (Facebook and YouTube) and will be hosted by Emmanuel Aguilar.
Here’s a rundown of television and radio coverage for the upcoming weekend.
