Real Men Violin needed five starts to earn his first career victory, finishing second three times and third once before prevailing by a half-length Oct. 29, 2023, at Chgurchill Downs on a sloppy track.
The Mendelssohn colt, who had twiced placed on the grass in his first four races, remained on the main track for his stakes debut in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes Nov. 25 at Churchill Downs. He rallied to finish second to Honor Marie in the 1 1/16-mile points race on the Road to the 2024 Kentucky Derby.
