Bio
Cho was born in what is now North Korea, but grew up in Seoul,
the capital of South Korea. He moved to the U.S. in 1978. His first
job was painting apartments and he later started a clothing export
business in Los Angeles. The company began by shipping clothing to
South Korea, but now ships products around the world. Cho entered
racing in the late 1980s with the purchase of a $16,000 claimer.
His interest grew quickly and by early in 1990 he had 11 horses in
training. One of them was Video Ranger, who he claimed from D.

Wayne Lukas for $40,000 on January 17. The Cox's Ridge colt never
won a race for Cho, but he took him on a memorable ride, finishing
second in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, fourth in the Kentucky
Derby and second in the Grade 2 Jersey Derby. Cho has had success
with younger horses - Critical Factor and Nationalore finished
third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile - and he routinely tries his
2-year-olds in the major graded stakes before they have picked up a
victory in a maiden race. In 2011, Cho's horses won six of 50
starts and earned $474,840.
