Irish trainer Dermot Weld took over his father Charlie's training yard in 1972 at the age of 24. Weld is a top international trainer, having saddled the winners of top races on four continents. He has won all five Irish classics. He is also a veterinarian and formerly an apprentice jockey.
Top horses trained by Weld include Melbourne Cup winners Vintage Crop (1993) and Media Puzzle (2002), Theatrical and Grey Swallow. He also trained 1990 Belmont Stakes winner Go and Go.
