Sand Devil won his career debut outing in a six-furlong New York-bred maiden race at Aqueduct on Dec. 8, 2024, in his lone start as a 2-year-old. He followed that up with a big 12 1/2-length New York-bred allowance optional claiming win going one mile at Aqueduct in his first start as a 3-year-old on Jan. 2, 2025. His record climbed to 3-for-3 when he won his stakes debut in the $121,000 Damon Runyon Stakes going seven furlongs at Aqueduct on Feb. 9.

Sand Devil suffered his first career loss but still was able to run very well for second in his graded stakes debut in his next start, which came in the Grade 3 $300,000 Gotham Stakes going one mile at Aqueduct on March 1. Sand Devil's runner-up finish in a field of nine 3-year-olds was enough to garner him 25 qualifying points on the road to the Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve.
Sand Devil is trained by Linda Rice. He was bred in New York by the sire Violence out of the mare Mineralogist by Mineshaft.
