Top Recruit won the seven-furlong, $125,000 Runhappy Ellis Park Juvenile on Aug. 14, 2022, in just his third career start for trainer Mike Maker. That victory was flattered when runner-up Curly Jack returned to win the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs in that colt’s next start.
Top Recruit’s first two outings were a maiden win at first asking on June 9 going five furlongs at Churchill Downs, which was followed by a distant third-place finish in the Prairie Gold Juvenile Stake at Prairie Meadows on July 9.
