The Super Bowl is here and while all eyes will be on the game this Sunday, there are plenty of football players, coaches, and owners that also like to spend their time at the races!

Current Kansas City Chiefs coach and former Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid visited Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom and his trainer Graham Motion after his big win.   

Drew Brees has owned horses as a partner in the Donkey Island Racing group and once claimed a horse named Siempre Mio away from NBA stars Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. He’s a Del Mar resident and took his family to meet Triple Crown winner American Pharoah.

Vince Wilfork, a two-time champion with the New England Patriots who later played with the Houston Texans, owns Great Minds who won the Grade 3 Texas Mile at Lone Star Park in 2016.

Former Atlanta Falcons’ tight end Jacob Tamme is a partner in Hat Creek Racing, and he owns a farm in Kentucky. So far his best horse is Royal Ascot stakes winner Con Te Partiro.

Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk is a partner in the Team Valor syndicate and has stakes performer Infinite Magic among his best horses owned.

New Orleans Saints owners Tom and Gayle Benson race as GMB Racing and have had two runners in the Kentucky Derby: Mo Tom and Tom’s Ready. Follow them here.

Wes Welker, ex-New England Patriot who’s now an assistant coach for the Houston Texans, owns the multiple graded stakes winner Undrafted who won the Grade 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2015. He also partners with Tamme in Hat Creek Racing and is involved in co-ownership with others.

He’s focused on the big game now, but Tom Brady of the New England Patriots also gets Kentucky Derby fever and brings his teammates to experience the first Saturday in May.

Hall of Fame tight end and longtime Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka is a racing fan and was spotted at the inaugural Pegasus World Cup Invitational last year.

Former running back Steven Jackson has been known to frequent Southern California tracks and even presented a trophy at the Breeders’ Cup in 2012.
