A native of Panama, Castillo made his American riding debut in December 2016 at Gulfstream Park. He won his first career race in May 2017 at Monmouth Park.
Castillo had a breakthrough year in 2021. He won 115 races with earnings of $3.5 million, more than triple what he had earned in any prior year. His biggest win came on Sept. 26, 2021, when he rode Dakota Gold to victory in the Nownownow Stakes at Monmouth. He finished second in the riding standings at Monmouth with 52 wins.

Castillo started 2022 riding at Tampa Bay Downs and Oaklawn Park, then moved his tack back to Monmouth for the start of their season. On May 29, he won five races in one day at the Jersey Shore oval.
