Will Take Charge

D. Wayne Lukas-trained Will Take Charge was the winner of the Smarty Jones Stake in his 2013 debut. As a 2-year-old, he won his maiden by a length and was second in the Remington Springboard Mile Stakes. Will Take Charge earned himself a spot in the Kentucky Derby starting gate, where he finished eighth, when he beat stablemate Oxbow by a head in the Rebel Stakes, After his Derby run, he finished seventh in the Preakness Stakes before moving on to the Belmont Stakes where he placed tenth.

Will Take Charge earned a breakthrough Grade 1 stakes win when he reeled in Moreno and Kentucky Derby winner Orb to prevail in the 2013 Travers Stakes. The colt found victory again in the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby, where he ran past Moreno to win by 2 1/4 lengths. The Unbridled Song son finished a close second in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Classic. Finishing his year by defeating Game On Dude in the Grade 1 Clark Handicap, Will Take Charge was honored as 3-year-old champion male at the 2013 Eclipse Awards.

As a 4-year-old Will Take Charge finished second in a pair of Grade 1s before withstanding a claim of foul and finding the winner's circle in the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap. He finished second in the Stephen Foster and third in the Whitney and is aiming for a start in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (Grade 1) at Belmont on Sept. 27.

Will Take Charge is out of multiple Grade 1 winner Take Charge Lady and is a half brother to Grade 1 winner Take Charge Indy.
