Wentru

Wentru won his fourth career start in a one-mile maiden claiming race on turf at Fair Grounds in early 2021. He raced in Kentucky, Florida, and Louisiana for the rest of 2021 and into 2022 competing in the claiming and allowance ranks but resurfaced for new connections in Canada in May 2022.

Wentru was winless in three starts at Woodbine but suddenly improved form in early fall. The gelding reeled off three consecutive wins – two on turf, one on all-weather – before testing stakes company in the Grade 3, 1 ½-mile Valedictory Stakes on Woodbine’s synthetic Tapeta track on Dec. 4.

With Rafael Hernandez aboard, Wentru set the pace in the marathon Valedictory and was all out to finish in a dead heat with 8-5 favorite Who’s the Star for first at odds of 42.35-1.
