Tamara

Tamara won her career debut maiden race at first asking at Del Mar on Aug. 19, 2023 in a 6 1/2-furlong dirt race, cruising past a 10-horse field with ease to win by 2 1/4 lengths. Tamara then wasted no time getting back to the track for her second lifetime start, which came in the Grade 1 $300,000 Del Mar Debutante on Sept. 9. Sent off as the 6-5 favorite on the tote board in a field of 12 fillies under jockey Mike Smith, Tamara was prominent throughout in the Del Mar Debutante and then completely outclassed the field, taking a large lead on the turn and extending the advantage through the stretch run onward to a 6 3/4-length victory in a time of 1:22.41 for seven furlongs.

Tamara is trained by Richard Mandella. She was bred in Kentucky by the sire Bolt d'Oro out of the champion mare Beholder by Henny Hughes. Beholder was a four-time Eclipse Award champion during her illustrious racing career, including champion 2-year-old filly of 2012, champion 3-year-old filly in 2013, and champion older female in 2015 and 2016.
