A winner of his first two races by a combined 5 3/4 lengths, Gold Hawk stepped up to the stakes level when he ran in the LeComte Stakes in January. While the son of Empire Maker finished a distant third in the race, it was enough for his connections to keep him on the Triple Crown trail.
Sold for $450,000 at Keeneland's September Yearling Sale, Gold Hawk is by Belmont Stakes winner Empire Makler and out of 2000's champion 2-year-old filly and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Caressing.
