Gina Romantica

Gina Romantica made her career debut as a 3-year-old on March 12, 2022 and won a maiden race at first asking in a six-furlong dirt sprint at Tampa Bay Downs. The first four starts of her career were all on the main track and also included an allowance optional claiming victory on a sloppy track going 1 1/16 miles at Belmont Park on May 7 in her third lifetime start.

Despite decent results on the dirt early in her career, Gina Romantica really took off when switched to the turf, beginning on Aug. 25 when she won her turf debut outing in the Riskaverse Stakes going one mile at Saratoga. She followed that up in her next race with a second-place finish in the Grade 3 Pebbles Stakes at Belmont at the Big A on Sept. 18, losing by just a half a length in the one-mile grass race for 3-year-old fillies.

Next up for Gina Romantica off her Pebbles near miss was a trip to Keeneland for the Grade 1 $600,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup on Oct. 15, which would become the biggest victory in her career to date.  Gina Romantica stalked the pace mid-pack in a field of six 3-year-old fillies, then surged between horses to the lead in the stretch and was able to hold off the late run of favorite McKulick to win by 1 3/4 lengths. She ran the 1 1/8 miles on firm turf in 1:48.20 and paid $11.06 to win as the third choice on the tote board.

Gina Romantica is trained by Chad Brown. She was bred in Kentucky by Into Mischief out of the mare Special Me by Unbridled's Song.
