After finishing second one and third once in his first three starts, Extra Hope scored a breakthrough victory with a runaway 8 ¾-length win in October 2018 at Santa Anita. He subsequently ran fourth in the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes before closing out his 2-year-old season with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Cash Call Futurity.
After finishing second one and third once in his first three starts, Extra Hope scored a breakthrough victory with a runaway 8 ¾-length win in October 2018 at Santa Anita. He subsequently ran fourth in the Grade 3 Bob Hope Stakes before closing out his 2-year-old season with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Cash Call Futurity.
The Shanghai Bobby colt won an allowance/optional claiming race by 3 ¼ lengths in January 2019 in his 3-year-old bow and next finished fourth in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes. Rested until late summer/early fall, he closed out the year with a third in the Damascus Stakes and then a runner-up finish to Midcourt in the Grade 3 Native Diver Stakes Nov. 23 at Del Mar.
Extra Hope returned from a nine-month layoff with an unplaced finish in August 2020, but he rebounded nicely in his second start of the year with a three-quarter-length score in a one-mile allowance/optional claiming race at Santa Anita Sept. 26.
In the 2020 Native Diver Stakes, Extra Hope took command early under Juan Hernandez, opened up on his opposition entering the stretch, and held off Midcourt by a length to secure his first career stakes win.
