City Man

A New York-bred son of Mucho Macho Man, City Man began his career with two consecutive victories. Following a win against New York-bred maidens at Saratoga on July 18, 2019, he won the Funny Cide Stakes impressively next out on Aug. 23. City Man ended his 2-year-old season with three defeats in stakes races.

In the final start of his 3-year-old year, City Man won his first stakes race against open company when he took the Gio Ponti Stakes by a nose at Aqueduct on Nov. 27. He made a wide surge in the stretch and nailed Bodecream in the last few jumps for the 4.20-1 victory.

City Man won one time from seven starts as a 4-year-old in 2021, taking the West Point Stakes Presented by Trustco Bank at Saratoga on Aug. 27.

He returned as a 5-year-old and won his 2022 debut on Apr. 9, taking the Danger's Hour Stakes at Aqueduct after a ground-saving trip. Three starts later, he closed from off the pace to deliver a dominant 2 3/4-length win in the $175,000 Forbidden Apple Stakes July 15 at Saratoga to earn his first career graded stakes victory.

City Man won back-to-back New York-bred turf stakes in the fall of 2022 at the Belmont at the Big A meet, first taking the $125,000 Ashley T. Cole Stakes and then winning the $200,000 Mohawk Stakes.

City Man then once again had the opportunity to show that he is not just a New York-bred turf threat, but also a threat against open company when he entered the Grade 2 $200,000 Ft. Lauderdale Stakes on Dec. 31. He rounded out the year with perhaps his best effort to date, winning the Ft. Lauderdale by 1 1/2 lengths atop a field of 12 after a close-up stalking trip. City Man completed the 1 1/8 miles on firm turf in a time of 1:46.10. Sent off as the 3-1 second choice on the tote board, he returned $8.20 to win.
